Will a Smart Safety Device Connect From Inside a Refinery Tank?

Transcript

Hi. This is Ernesto Ghini from Blackline Safety, and I'm here today to talk about a topic that always come in our training sessions. Usually, our customers ask if a cell-connected device or a satellite-connected device will work inside a refinery tank. This is not a simple yes or no question. You gotta do this specific test in your area.

Before you make it, just make sure that you follow the proper regulations in your region, in your country, your state, or province. Just follow the correct regulations.

Then wear the appropriate PPE so you can get inside this tank. Before you get inside the tank, follow the specific confined space regulations in your region. Just make sure that you test the surrounding areas. You can use area monitors to do that. And then just use a monitor that has a pump on it so you can drag the gas out, make the appropriate readings. And once you have the permit to get in, then you finally get in with your cell, connected device or your satellite-connected device.

Do the appropriate test, pull the latch alarm, make sure that, your alarms are getting to the the Live portal, and then you're going to make sure that you have all the results that you need. As I said, you have two options. You can use the cell-connected device. If you don't think that you have the appropriate connection inside the tank, just use your satellite-connected device because you have a Bridge to connect your unit to the satellite, and then you have the appropriate, alarms and the appropriate connection.

Again, this is not a simple yes or no questions. Just make sure that you follow all the regulations in your area, and then you can do the test, to make sure that you have the alarms inside the stack. From my personal experience, I can tell you that I did this test in two different refineries in the country where I live, and, yes, they work well in both situations.

I hope yours also work well. Thank you.
